I would say that I love this book, but it's so sad it almost feels wrong to say that I enjoyed it! I wanted to show Bruno what was really going on and found it very frustrating that I couldn't! I think it's a wonderful, subtle introduction to the horrendous history of WWII for KS2 and 3 pupils.

I too really enjoyed this book, and I know what you mean when you say it feels wrong to say that due to the sadness! It's not a book I'd normally choose, even though the topic of WWII interests me, but once I began I couldn't put the book down. I think prior knowledge of events which occurred during WWII and in concentration camps in particular make the insinuations within the book much stronger.

Bruno's innocence was frustrating at times and yet captivating.I have not seen the film and I did not know the ending. When it came, it was such a shock. It left me with vision of Bruno and Shmuel holding hands. Very sad.
